Tips when you have a claim
Do: Report it to your agent or Carrier immediately.
Do: Take proper measures to prevent further damage.
1.Extract water to prevent further damage.
2.Board up or tarp to prevent vandalism and water leakage.
3.Protect and collect your personal items.
4.Collect as many important papers as possible.
5.Notify police if home will need to be vacant.
Do: Work with a contractor approved by your Agent or Carrier.
1.They have worked with your Carrier, successfully, hundreds of times.
2.They are experienced with your Insurance company’s protocol.
3.They will come to a settlement quicker or be able to start immediately because of their relationship with the company.
Do: Save all your receipts for emergency living expenses.
Do: Ask for referrals.
Do: Ask lots of questions.
Don’t: Wait days to take action to protect your property from further damage.
Don’t: Try to make electrical repairs if water is present.
Don’t: Throw anything out until inventory of contents has been completed.
Don’t: Touch or get near downed wires.
Don’t: Clean soot without proper procedures, you can cause further damage.
Don’t: Use a Public Adjuster unless absolutely necessary. Settlements can take months instead of days, and they take 10% of your settlement.
